Consistent with the mission of the Department of Corrections to hold inmates accountable through work, skill development and restitution, while maintaining public safety and trust. Montana Correctional Enterprises (MCE) provides employment and training opportunities to offenders, which enhances public safety, promotes positive change in offender behavior, reintegrates offenders into the community and supports victims of crime. MCE must comply with the accounting and financial reporting requirements established by the Accounting Bureau of the Montana Department of Administration. Separate accounts are held for each proprietary and general fund operation. MCE proprietary fund monies are held in the State Treasury and invested by the Board of Investments. Interest earned on proprietary funds is transferred to the General Fund. Legislative Auditors conduct bi-annual audits of MCE financial and program operations.
