HandMade's mission is to grow economies through craft and creative placemaking. HandMade's vision: HandMade in America envisions Western North Carolina (WNC) with a global reputation for high quality of life, extensive cultural offerings, and thriving, creative community industries, and where craft, heritage, and culture are seen as key investments: an engine for personal, community, and economic growth. Our program work combines our passions (handmade craft and asset-based rural creative placemaking) into two main focus areas: Training local craft entrepreneurs to develop the skills they need to be innovative small business owners, and Helping rural communities in our region spark economic renewal through asset-based creative placemaking. Our organization, a unique non-profit community and economic development corporation, plays a vital role in growing a sustainable, thriving economy in Western North Carolina. We believe that craft inspires individuals and strengthens communities, and most importantly we know that craft, heritage, and culture are economic engines that build sustainable and vibrant places to live, work, and play.
