The place where I felt comfortable
JR Morrissey is the consummate professional. As a beginner, starting a brand is a daunting process. From the very first email and conversation, JR made me feel very comfortable. When I met with JR I was totally convinced that Factory 8 was the right fit me. JR offered me invaluable advice and really helped me streamline the sampling process. I recommend Factory 8 to anyone from the smallest to the biggest brand, to work with JR and his team at Factory 8.

High quality production and input
I have used Factory8 for samples and found them very pleasant to work with. They had good input on the samples that I had made and they were very well crafted. JR has good advice not only about the clothing but how to move to the next level when you're just starting out. Also, in term of communication, they are way better than most factories. Highly recommend!

Excellent Experience
I was absolutely impressed through and through with all the people that I worked with at Factory 8. I was very pleased with the end product, and that good impression has stood the test of time. Their support and communication was great, the craftsmanship was amazing, and they even accommodated changes in scheduling that made their work harder. Highest recommendation to this wonderful group of people. You'll feel lucky to have found them if you end up there.

No surprises, excellent work!
Factory8 was recommended to me by a friend who has a shirt line, used them and was happy with their work. I was looking to make a line of t-shirts. They helped me with every aspect of the production from sourcing, pattern work, sizing and ultimately producing the product. They were excellent throughout the process. They were always clear as to what I could expect (regarding time/price) and delivered the product as expected and on time. I am very happy with the final product, will use them again and will recommend them to others.

Great Experience!
My experience working with Factory 8 has always been very positive. The projects are always completed in a timely manner and the experience seamless. Factory8 has made pattern work, grading, sample sewing, etc etc a seamless process from start to finish, and always answered any questions I had along the way. They are always on time and always within budget.
Factory8 is a great resource and has made our creative vision come to reality each and every time! I look forward to many more projects with them!

WeatherWool's Experience with Factory8
WeatherWool offers the best pure-American woolen clothing we can figure out how to make. We always knew what we wanted to do but we did not know how to do it. We wasted considerable time and resources with other production shops before we found Factory8. Our objective has always been straightforward and simple, we thought, but translating our ideas into garments of the highest performance and craftsmanship was beyond the ability of the first few shops we worked with. That changed when we began working with JR and his team at Factory8. Now we have a full line of outerwear and people normally tell us WeatherWool is the best they have ever seen. We certainly recommend Factory8.

Not a good experience
They seemed nice and professional at first so I decided to make a pattern and a sample there.
I'm not a fashion designer so I didn't have the most detailed sketch, but they said it's enough to work with and they'll give me a price estimation within the next 3-5 business days. After that time had passed, I texted to check what's up and it seems like they weren't sure what I'm talking about until I reminded them. They said they'll do it by the next day, but 4 more days have passed and I didn't hear from them.
They didn't answer the phone on several occasions and didn't call back either, only answered to texts.
After a week of being late from max time they said it'll be ready (so 5 business days and then another week), I got pretty frustrated. I understand sometimes people can't be exactly on time, but not updating, not saying there's a delay and avoiding calls is not acceptable. And it was just for a price estimation, not even a pattern.
When I finally talked to them and told them how I feel, they said: "if you're already upset so early in the process, we should stop working together. This is how the industry works, things can take more time". They also said that my sketch is craft so I'd probably not be happy with the result anyway, which is interesting because they're suppose to be able to work with beginners like they say they do.
I found 3 different places that I started the process with and none of them behaved this way, so I have the feeling it's not the industry, it's them.
It might be suitable for more experienced designers, but this attitude is wrong no matter what. Would not recommend working with them.
Response from the manufacturer
Hi Noga,
We feel at Factory8 posting a review like yours is what Maker's Row is all about, although we don't like the rate of a 2 as it is ultimately the goal to make matches that work. The time line you posted is pretty close to accurate, but what you left off is the time we spent at the beginning where we invested in 3 one hour meetings with you about your project to address all your concerns before pricing out the top. Ultimately we felt uncomfortable moving forward with you as we could not meet your level of expectation as we were still unclear what it was. We work with many new companies and young designers to much success and their level of expatiation of quality and fit is always met. But if we don't think it will be a partnership between us and a new client will be a good fit it is in no one's best interest (including yours) to move forward.
The best thing about Maker's Row and this experience is it did not cost you any money, just both of us a bit of time. I know it is frustrating and upsetting when a relationship does not work out, but I have also heard too many times from new clients the same story with the exception that it cost them thousands of dollars.
Making things is not easy and Maker's Row is there to connect the dots--sometimes the dots connected are not the right ones at that moment.
We wish you much success, sincerely.
