DIRAKNITS is a New York City based knitwear studio focused on providing inspirational swatches, research, design assistance and education to the global fashion industry. We are able to work with clients in a range of markets including mens, womens, childrens, accessories and home markets. We also provide unique creative knitwear and design workshops for designers, students, fine artists, crafters, and children. Dira, the company founder, has an MA in Knitwear Design and has worked with companies in both Europe and the United States. Services Include: Swatch Development: We work with clients to translate their inspiration into unique swatches that can be translated into pieces for the men’s, women’s, children's, accessories, and home markets. We have an expansive knowledge of digital, hand-looming and hand-knitting techniques, along with an understanding of industrial production techniques. In addition to traditional knitting techniques, we specialize in experimental knitting techniques and materials, for those interested in pushing their knit garments to the next creative level. Research & Development: We provide extensive research for knit focused designs ”" focusing on inspiration, color palette development, silhouette, fabrication, and vintage garment shopping. Domestic and international research travel is available as needed to trade shows including Pitti Filati, SPINEXPO, and Indigo. As part of our research service, we also offer mood and product board development. Sampling & Small Batch Production: Depending on your needs, we able to produce sample knitted garments. We are also able to visit factory to assist with development of first samples and swatches using Stoll and Shima Seiki technologies. We can also provide small-batch production assistance on hand-knitted and hand-loomed pieces under 50 units. Studio Assistance: Need an extra hand in studio? CAD Development & Tech Pack Preparation: We create garment visualization, technical CAD flats, hand-drawn illustrations, and prepare technical packs in order to assist you in getting your garments ready for production. Education: Through workshops and private tutorials, we offer range of education courses focused on knitwear design and crochet. Our focus is to not only get you knitting, but to also, encourage you to explore knitting as a creative art form.
