Started in Louisville, Kentucky and then flourishing in Los Angeles, California, J. A. Bauer Pottery Company created simple, yet beautiful earthenware from the late 1880s to the early 1960s. After the depression, inspired by the weather and lifestyles of Southern California, Bauer Pottery introduced new, richly colored styles, which met with overwhelming success. Recently, the work of J.A. Bauer was reintroduced by a Los Angeles entrepreneur, out of a small studio just minutes from the original plant. After a few short years, the new Bauer line, Bauer 2000, is manufactured at the company's factory in Highland, California, with an emphasis on styles originally manufactured in the 1930s and 1940s. The 15 vibrant colors carefully selected for the Bauer 2000 line have been reformulated to be food safe and lead free. Seasonal shades are also available from time to time. Bauer Pottery is distributed worldwide in more than 20 countries.
