Stacey contacted me about my project which was to create a line of hair accessories for children with curly hair. My line includes silk sleep caps, silk pillowcases etc. I was given a quote of how much it would cost to make prototypes for my concept. Stacey was very nice and enthusiastic about the project. We did 3 rounds of prototypes, the cost way exceeded what I was quoted. Many of the modifications were due to the inability of Stacey to effectively communicate with her team. There was a serious lack of organization and no production procedures in place.
I was sold on the fact that they were staffed with displaced seamstress from Oshkosh (the jean co. I paid for 3 items to be prototyped and ended up with only one item that was still not up to par. I thought that implied they were experienced. I ended up having to take the last version of of the prototype and start the entire project over. Months of time and hundreds of dollars wasted!
Here are a list of specific issues that were problematic:
*Patterns unclear, unusable, a mess
*Unable to provide Tech Pack as promised
*Did not complete prototypes of items as described
*None of the samples were labeled making it impossible to make modifications
*No procedures are in place, unorganized, inefficient and charging by the hour
*Seams are sloppy, loose threads, samples are cut uneven
*Did not meet her own timeline or deadlines
I proceeded to hire a consultant who reproduced all my patterns, created real tech packs for me and sampled them to two new factories. The prototypes they sent back were done within 2 weeks. All items were properly labeled and much higher quality. I am finally in production with my product line, just wish I wouldn't have started with Stitch Kentucky. I would honestly take her to small claims court if I didn't feel bad for the workers. I just don't have the energy or time to waste!
Response from the manufacturer
February 2019
We would like to reply to the above review.
Stitch Kentucky was founded in order to utilize the fabulous seamstresses in our community who worked at a major children's clothing manufacturing plant before it went overseas. When we were contacted to develop products for this company, we were so excited about the project. We spent much time thinking of ideas and offering those to the customer to assist with their project at no additional cost. We were given very little as far as direction for the first samples. Yes....we made 3 rounds of prototypes, but we did not charge for all three. There is no mention of the successful samples we made of other products they wished to have developed. Our seamstresses are fabulous. They have turned out projects for large corporations with much success from our factory, one having over 500 locations. We would hold their skills to anyone.
There were many changes and additions to the customers first design and after having two seamstresses ask to be taken off the project we agreed with the customer that it might be best to find another manufacturer. We then offered all patterns as well as had phone calls with the new company in order to assist them with what we had come up with for the client. We gave at least two professional discounts in order to work with the customer and the great amount of time spent on the project, but we had no choice but to charge for the time spent trying to change the design, etc.
We currently have worked with over 40 clients in the past year with 99.9% of them being very happy and are happy to provide references for anyone looking at our company. We wish this client the best of luck as we did when we parted ways and were very taken back by the review.
In sincerity,
Stitch Kentucky
